Here came my festival so proud to tell you all about my festival ,want you to know what is Behdeiñkhlam festival is all about..
Behdeinkhlam celebrated every year after sowing season, i.e. in the month of July is the most joyous event in the life of the Jaintia tribe who profess and practice the indigenous religion called Niamtre. This year the festival is observe from the 7th to 11th July . The Behdeiñkhlam is a community festival, not a mere joyous event. The festival provides an opportunity for the members of a community to rejoice together and glorify God (U Tre Kirot), the creator. It is also an occasion for social interaction and promoting social cohesion.
The rites and rituals performed during the festival are eventually directed towards the veneration of legendary ancestors like U Syiem Lakriah and the four sisters, Ka Bon, Ka Teiñ, Ka Wet and Ka Doh. Prayers are offered to God invoking Him to drive away all the evil spirits. Sacrifices are made to Ki Blai chnong Blai raid invoking them to protect from natural calamities and prevent the people from famine and diseases. Prayers are also offered to Ka Bei Rymaw for bountiful harvest. The genesis of Behdeiñkhlam is connected with the myth of U Lakriah which is part of the origin myth connected with the descend of u niaw wasa to earth through ka tangnoob tangjri. Having live harmoniously and comfortably on earth, God handed over the rule of religious and social conduct (ki hukum adong) through U Lakriah at the Devine Dorbar. This give the niaw wasa a system of belief called Niamtre. God also told the niaw wasa that they would no longer be able to see Him, since his task of creation is completed. But having seen that the niaw wasa was in full of tears, God assured to visit them once a year and stay with them for four days and three nights (so sngi le yaw). During His stay, God wanted to see a dance in His glory, so that He would fill their thumping heart, signifying His presence within their hearts. Thus, the Behdeiñkhlam bring the niaw wasa into closer relationship with God, U Tre Kirot. Behdeiñkhlam as a dance festival function as a medium of prayer and praise, as an expression of joy and reverence and as a mediator between God and humanity...........
Wish you all a happy Behdeinkhlam Chihazar ngooh!!
